Abstract

Kamla Das is pre-eminently a poet of diverse themes. Her Poetry embodies her quest for a fulfilling relationship and the anguish over her inability to find such a relationship inside or outside marriage. Since a writer expresses a sensibility shaped and moulded by his Age, a full appreciation of his or her works is better possible if we understand the background influences at work. These influences assume even greater significance in the case of women writing as women lead a comparatively more socio- defined and society governed life. Such extraneous influences play an important role in formative period of any literature. Indian Womans circumstances are very peculiar.
