Abstract

Smart Building is a term commonly used to define buildings equipped with special system that does some intelligent actuations according to situation. Integration of the building systems with embedded sensors, actuators and microcomputers or microcontrollers allows them to communicate with one another through the building controller.Smart building installations are becoming more and more popular all over the world. They help to improve the quality of a daily life, reduce costs and increase security. The main goal of our paper is to develop an energy saving Smart Building using RF Motes (transmitter-receiver pairs with a few built-in sensors and microcontrollers) configured in a tightly connected Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) to reduce the energy consumption by controlling and monitoring the electrical and electronics devices in different rooms or locations inside the buildings. The model we developed has the ability to provide energy savings to design the physical boundaries of a house, position a set of sensors inside it, and observe the operation of a house through a set of scenarios, where human behavior will trigger the sensors. Both sensors infrastructure and building of scenarios are designed in a way that enable easy access and extension in the future.
