Abstract

This paper focus on the identity of immigrant feminine in America. Divakarunis works are largely set in India and the United states, and often focus on the experiences of South Asian immigrants. Rakhi the protagonist of the novel represents many second generation Indian immigrant women, who feel being American, because they are born there.But the natives do not accept immigrants as an Americans. For the natives, they are still Outsiders. This is hard to believe for people like Rakhi. Sonny does not create music for America When his people are dying outside. a Pakistani woman considers safe at home and prefers to stay In and the Afghani man has to take his children to school though it is not far from the house. After this incident a kind of disquietude is observed among the immigrants. The social upheaval affected Indian immigrants personal and social, inward and outward lives.
