Abstract

As an exponent of Dalit Feminism, writer Bama has found in her novel Karukku, the right voice to talk about the hard toil and the sufferings of Dalit women. Karukku thus enjoys the unique recognition of being one of the first feminist discourses by a Tamil Dalit woman. Bama is the victim of the oppressed community, whose narrative exposes the subjugation and subordination of the Dalits. Bamas experiences as a woman and her observation of the experiential reality of woman that includes the issues of girls education, wife battering , sexual exploitation and humiliation, woman labour and wages, her restricted  movements, the burden of motherhood etc.- all constructed feminist vision while at the same time her work seems to be highlighting the resilience, strong motivation and unfaltering spirit of women to overcome all the hurdles and survive through solidarity in the most unpatriarchal condition without male protection and mans earning .
