Abstract

This article explores the influence of social media usage on students' academic performance in Kanke Block, Ranchi. Through a quantitative research design, patterns of social media use, study habits, and academic motivation were examined among 150 students. Findings reveal that WhatsApp is the most widely used platform, with significant time dedicated to online engagement. Despite its prevalence, social media usage presents challenges such as multitasking, distractions, and information-seeking behaviors, which may impact academic outcomes. While some studies suggest a negative association between social media use and academic performance, others find no significant impact or even positive effects. Digital literacy, responsible digital citizenship, and support structures are proposed as strategies to mitigate challenges and optimize the positive impact of social media on academic success.
