Review on the Child Marriage Consequences

  • Shakuli Saxena

Abstract

If a girl or boy below the age of 18 is married and lives with her partner, it is considered child marriage. Child marriage impacts both girls and boys, but it affects girls more overwhelmingly. Poverty, dowry, bride price, social and religious strain, cultural norms, illiteracy, concern that the child might remain unmarried as they become adults and, in some situations, the reluctance of women to work in order to get money are the key reasons behind child marriages. There are some dark aspects to child marriage, one of which is the declining health of the girl child, resulting in an expanded period of fertility leading to early pregnancy. Due to this extreme effect can be seen at the time of birth causing baby as well as maternal mortality rate. Some others measures of child marriage are child being removed from the school and discouraged from seeking higher education.
