Water pollution: Resource Management and Challenges ( A study of Dhar district)

Abstract

Water pollution is a major problem in the global environment. Water pollution, however, is not a
recent environmental issue, as it had been synonymous with urbanization and modernization The
main objectives of this article are to investigate major sources of water pollution, water resource
policies and challenges to improve water quality in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh. There can be
many health problems associated with polluted water if consumed are poor blood circulation, skin
lesions, vomiting, cholera, gastroenteritis, heart problem, kidney failure and even damage to the
nervous system. It is also highlighted that commercial, sewage, residential wastes are three main
sources of water pollution in the study area which is affecting resources as main source of water in
the study area is well and so the water is not flowing. Water is required for many purposes like
domestic, agricultural, hydro-power, thermal power, navigation, recreation, etc. Utilization in all
these diverse uses should be optimized and an awareness of water as a scarce resource should be
fostered. The availability of water resources and its use by various sectors, cities, districts, States and
country need to be assessed scientifically and reviewed at periodic intervals in every four-five years.
Natural resources cannot be created but can be preserved.
