Abstract

Frailty, thy name is woman. This English proverb is there pointing to the situation of women in society. It can not be said that the proverb has lost its meaning in todays world also. Women are held as the weaker sex. This is on account of their being physically less stronger as compared with their male counterparts. The women of India have been exposed to greater insecurity linked with poverty, illiteracy, castism, orthodoxy, unhealthy living conditions, traditionalism, backwardness, corruption, criminalization and male dominating in most of the fields. They have been affected by lack of opportunities and facilities owing to the innate discrimination prevalent  in the society. It is clear that the spread of literacy and education is much in evidence among the more affluent and socially advanced sections of society than among the poor and more backward sections. The present paper is based on the study of social and economic status of Female Post Graduate students of L.N.Mithila University. This University is one of the famous and prestigious educational institution of north Bihar.
