Abstract

A rapid, simple, selective and precise UV-Visible RP-HPLC method has been developed for the determination of Curcumin in hydrogels formulation. Different analytical methods have been developed in recent year for the quality control analysis of Curcumin including HPLC, HPTLC and UV-Visible Spectrophotometer. It was confirmed from the results of method validation characteristics such as specificity, linearity, range, precision, and accuracy were keeping within the limits of acceptance criteria defined under ICH guidelines, with the use of Thermo C18 analytical column (250mm.6 mm i.d., 5.0?m) with acetonitrile: methanol in the ratio of 50:50% v/v as isocratic mobile phase and UV detection was performed at 254nm. The linearity of the method was satisfactory over the range 5-25?g/ml (correlation coefficient 0.999). The limits of detection and quantification of Curcumin was 0.12g/ml and 0.45g/ml respectively. Recovery of Curcumin from the hydrogels formulation ranged from 98.13-99.23 % respectively. The method was proved to be specific, linear, precise, accurate and robust to use for routine analysis of formulations containing curcumin as their principal component.
