Is Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Rurban Mission (SPMRM) Promoting Livelihood? Evidences from Rural Rajasthan

Abstract

In view of the fact, various programs have been in picture towards rural development with a focus to improve quality life in villages, poverty reduction, creating more opportunities for employment, improvising literacy rate, sanitation and cleanliness, skill development, and better connectivity since independence. The commencement of the Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission (SPMRM) is to build up the rural areas with the aphorism Shahar ki Suvidha Gaon ki Atma providing lofty excellence facilities retaining all together the acquaintances and potency of rural community. Current study has explored beneficiaries of SPMRM about the extent they think SPMRM support livelihood of their household. A primary survey has been conducted with the help of self structured questionnaire. Some of the key parameters of livelihood considered for the study were Human Asset, Social Assets, Natural Assets, Physical infrastructure assets and Financial Assets. Results have shown that SPMRM has affected to a great extent all livelihood parameters except building physical infrastructure assets.
