Abstract

Diorganotin (IV) complexes of R2Sn(LH2) where R= Me, n-Bu, Phenyl andLH2 is the anion of 3-
carboxypropyldisulphidehave been reproduced. These complexes weredistinguished by elemental
analysis, infrared, nuclear magnetic resonance (
1H, 13C and 119Sn)and
thermogravimetricanalysis.Diorganotin (IV) complexes of 3-
carboxypropyl disulphide with 1:1 stoichiometry are proposed to exhibit tetrahedral geometry based on t
hese spectroscopic studies. Using Gaussian 09 software, thermodynamic parameters such as Enthalpy
(H), Entropy (S) and Gibbs free energy (G) are determined for the overall reaction. The negative value of
Gibbs free energy confirms feasibility of the overall reaction. In an attempt to explore the application of
organotin complexes as an additive, blend formation of commercially available poly(methyl
methacrylate) and organotin(IV) complexes is done. Thermal investigations of the blend showsits
increased thermal stability in comparision to poly(methylmethacrylate). It suggeststhe useof organotin
complexes as additives towards poly(methylmethacrylate)
