Bhabhesh Chandra Sanyal’s Contribution to Delhi Silpi Chakra

Abstract

Abstract: After independence in 1951, the artists related to progressive artists group (PAG) did a joint exhibition with the artists of Calcutta Group in Calcutta. In a meantime, Indian artists began a quest for their individual styles, bringing forward innovative ideas and new techniques. Delhi Silpi Chakra (DSC) group emerged in 1949, as a post partition phenomenon a number of artists from the Lahore art school migrated to Delhi. An eminent sculpture and painter B.C. Sanyal was a fist chairperson of DSC. In 1936 he set up own his studio-cum-school known as Lahore School of fine Arts. The purpose of this paper is to explore the artist vision, symbols, stories, trends of modernity and analyse some artworks with reference to theme, style, medium, and used techniques. For fulfilment of these objectives researcher explore the exiting facts from various institutions and web resources. After exploration of facts regarding to DSC, it may be stated that the Sanyal played an eminent role in the inception of the DSC. His contribution oeuvre-sculpture and paintings reveals him as a man in love with life.
