Spatial Pattern of Housing and Household Amenities in Maharashtra

Abstract

Housing is one of the most important basic needs of human life after it food and clothes these are the main requirements. Housing and availability of household amenities are considered to be the most valuable economic asset and is an important indicator to measure the standard of living and social-economic status of a person. The present study attempts to measure the quality of life on the basis of housing and household amenities in Maharashtra. The study reveals the quality of life  and better household amenities like own housing, permanent stucture of housing, tap water facility, electricity facility (as main source of lighting), kitchen facility, L.P.G (as a main source of fuel for ccoking), bathroom facility (within premises), latrine (within premises),  closed drainage facility are taken. The results shows that there is large inter district variations in terms of housing and household amenities in Maharashtra. The districts which are lying under the Konkan region and Pune region or western part of Maharashtra are enjoying good housing and houshold amenities. On the other hand the districts which are comes under the central and eastern part of Maharashtra in Marathwada and Vidharbha regions are having lack of housing and household amenities.
