A STUDY OF ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN RELATION TO THEIR CREATIVITY

Abstract

The present study was undertaken to study the academic achievement of senior secondary school students in relation to their creativity. Creativity was treated as independent variable whereas academic achievement was treated as dependent variable. Random sampling technique was used to select the sample for the present study. Descriptive survey method was used for the present study. The sample comprised of 220 students from private schools of Jind district in Haryana State. Academic achievement of the students was determined on the basis of their previous examination marks i.e. 10th standard. Non-verbal test of Creative Thinking by Baquer Mehdi (2008) was used to assess the creativity among students. Statistical techniques like Mean, S.D., t-test and coefficient of correlation (r) were employed to the study the academic achievement of senior secondary school students in relation to their creativity. The findings of the study revealed that positive and significant relationship was exists between academic achievement and creativity (fluency, flexibility and originality) of senior secondary school students. It was found that fluency, flexibility and originality (as dimensions of creativity) of male and female senior secondary school students differ significantly. Further, it was found that creativity as a whole among male and female senior secondary school students differ significantly. It was also found that the fluency, flexibility and originality (as dimensions of creativity) of rural and urban senior secondary school students differ significantly. It was found that creativity as a whole among rural and urban senior secondary school students differ significantly.
