This is a comprehensive review which mainly addresses the researches and inventions put forth on metallic implants such as stainless steel, titanium, cobaltchromium alloys, bio-degradable metals primarily focusing on patents on magnesium ,coatings on metallic implants such as aluminum oxide, organo-vanadium, silver, copper. The review also addresses the future scope of the same
