Workplace Stress and Type of Company: Is there a Link?

Abstract

Stress is a common term in everyday life. As far as the workplace is concerned, stress is an intrinsic part of it. Stress is also identified as an essential component of achievement, without a certain amount of which one may not perform at all. Causes of stress called as stressors can come from both outside and inside the organization. It can come from employees themselves or from the groups that influence the employees. The environmental factors can also cause stress. Elements of employees work environment including characteristics of the task, the role and the organization constitute environmental factors. In this paper an attempt is made to identify whether there is a link between the type of company and stress experienced. Results show that there is no significant difference on the overall stress as well as stress dimensions experienced by the software professionals working in state level, national level or multinational companies except for unprofitability dimension.
