Aravind Adiga’s Last Man in Tower: A Critique of Globalized Milieu of Mumbai

Abstract

 The present paper attempts to explore Mumbai and its milieu in the age of globalization. The process of globalization encompasses many spheres of life which directly or indirectly are interlinked with each other. This direct or indirect interlinking of myriads spheres expedites the process of globalization. Aravind Adiga is a contemporary author who has carved a niche by fetching the prestigious Man Booker Prize for his debut novel, The White Tiger. He began his career as a financial journalist which reflects its influence in his writing. Aravind Adigas Last Man in Tower shows setting of Mumbai in the age of globalization. He maneuvers social, economical, political, ethnical and other spheres which are under influence of process of globalization. The process of globalization exerts its influence which has its pros and cons. Aravind Adiga observes the situation around him and delineates the same in Last Man in Tower. An attempt has been made to explore how Adiga is a critique of globalized milieu of Mumbai. The exploration has been undertaken in the certain spheres and areas like gentrification, realism, law and order, materialistic approach of the characters, migration of people and cosmopolitan views with reference to Last Man in Tower.
