COGNIZANCE AND HISTORICAL ASPECTS: A STUDY OF KAZUO ISHIGURO’S THE REMAINS OF THE DAY

Abstract

This paper attempts to analyze the notion of cognizance and historical aspects of Kazuo Ishiguros The Remains of the Day. Kazuo Ishiguros novel presents the human relationship with help of memory or mind. Ishiguro reconstructs history from the point of view of late twentieth century. The paper explores the features of postmodern through the character of Stevens as well as Stevens explains his past life by narrating his lifes past memories. From the perspective of postmodernism the novel explains the historical events and memories that are helpful in recreating the past with the intention that present can be significant.
