Abstract

Organizations these days are living in an era of turbulent environment and dynamic changes. Despite an increasing number of studies on the commitment to change, not much work has been done in linking commitment to change with demographic variables. This study investigated the relationship between commitment to change and demographic variables (designation and experience at present position) in the case of faculty members of Indian universities. Data were collected from 301 faculty members of Indian private universities using a questionnaire. The instrument that has been used for data collection was adapted from Herscovitch and Meyer's scale for measuring commitment to change. ANOVA was used as a statistical technique for analyzing the data. The results of the study revealed that there existed significant differences in the commitment to change of faculty members based on designation and experience at present position (number of years). The professors exhibited a higher affective commitment to change than an assistant and associate professors. Similarly, the senior faculty members were found to have a higher affective commitment to change than the faculty members who have worked for a lesser time at a particular position.
