Evaluation of some rare medicinal plants against MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 cell lines

Abstract

Morinda angustifolia (MA), Eclipta alba haska (EA), Callistemon macropanctatus (CM) and Chloroxylon swetienia (CS) have been used as traditional medicines for various ailments. In the present work, the hexane, chloroform and ethanolic extracts of all the plants were tested for their anticancer activity against human breast cancer cell lines MCF-7 and then on MDA-MB-231. CMC showed the best activity with 43.2 percentage viability at 10 g/ml of extract against MCF-7 cell line. Then it shows good activity against MDA-MB-231 cell line. It can be further studied for isolation to get the pure compounds.
